ATLANTA, Ga. (CNN Newsource) — More than half a dozen medical groups are suing to reverse changes made to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s childhood vaccine recommendations.
Groups including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Physicians filed the suit on Monday.
The Atlanta-based CDC made changes to the vaccine schedule for children earlier this month.
It now recommends that vaccines to prevent hepatitis A, hepatitis B and some forms of meningitis only be given to children at higher risk for infection.
The CDC also recommends parents consult with their doctors to decide whether to give their children vaccines against flu, COVID-19 and rotavirus.
The lawsuit calls the changes in vaccine recommendations “reckless” and “dangerous,” and claims they should be declared unlawful.
The plaintiffs want the court to restore the vaccine schedule to what it was last April, before changes were made by Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose department oversees the CDC.
The lawsuit, which is part of a larger suit against HHS over vaccine recommendations, was filed in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts.
