VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - An electrical issue prompted an early morning response from the Valdosta Fire Department after a residential fire was reported in the 2300 block of Riverhill Drive.

Fire crews were dispatched just before 3 a.m. this morning. The first unit arrived on scene within four minutes and found light smoke coming from the residence.

According to the Valdosta Fire Department, the fire was caused by a problem with the home’s electrical panel box. Crews quickly shut down power to the residence and extinguished the remaining fire before it could spread.

One adult and four pets were inside the home at the time of the incident. Officials say all occupants were safely accounted for and were not injured.

Fire officials remind residents to regularly check electrical systems and report any signs of trouble to help prevent similar incidents.
