ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - A gloomy morning did not stop the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany from celebrating the United States Marine Corps’ 249th Birthday!

“Happy Birthday Marines! Semper Fidelis!” said Matt McKinney, MCLB commanding officer, aid.

Since Nov. 1, 1921, by order of General John A. Lejeune and the 13th Commandant, the Marine Corps birthday has served as a reminder of the incredible and honorable service of the corps.

“For every marine across the globe, celebrating the birthday, whether you have two marines or two thousand marines. It’s a special day and every marine remembers that day no matter how long they live.,” said McKinney.

The celebration included a cake-cutting ceremony and a uniform pageant. During the pageant, current marines donned the uniforms of those who served before them.

“The Marine Corps is very proud of our history. Since November 10th, 1775, until modern day, every year we gather to celebrate and commemorate our birthday. This pageant just helps marines connect to history and those who have gone before them serving in the Marine Corps,” said McKinney.

The MCLB Albany is already looking forward to next year when the Marine Corps celebrates its 250th birthday.
