COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — UPDATE (7 a.m. Tuesday morning):
An Amber Alert for a 7-year-old girl ended with the suspect, her non-custodial father, shot dead following a police pursuit and shooting on Interstate 71 near Medina, Ohio.
The Brunswick Division of Police released on Tuesday that Charles Ryan Alexander, the girl's father, failed to stop for police, prompting a pursuit.
Officers deployed stop sticks, successfully halting Alexander's vehicle in a business parking lot.
Police said Alexander was armed, and negotiations were attempted. However, a shooting ensued, resulting in officers firing shots at Alexander. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The girl was safely recovered and returned to her family without any injuries, police said. No officers were injured during the incident.
The Medina County Sheriff's Office and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the incident.
ORIGINAL REPORTING (Monday evening):
An AMBER Alert was canceled for a 7-year-old girl taken by her noncustodial father in Jefferson County.
According to the alert, Charles Alexander, 43, took 7-year-old Oaklynn Alexander after an altercation at a family member's home.
Law enforcement located an unoccupied gray F150 they were believed to be in before they got in a 26ft U-Haul Ford F-650 with AZ plate number AL74169. Charles may still be using the U-Haul.
An updated alert said the girl was located, but the father was at large.
