ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Georgia bishop and political leader Reginald Thomas Jackson passed away on Nov. 25, 2025.
Bishop Jackson, who presided over about 500 Georgia congregations in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME), has died at age 71.

According to a release, last year Jackson took on a new bishop post that included delivering sermons to churches in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina.
Outside of being a religious and political leader he also served as the chairman of the board of trustees of Morris Brown College.
U.S Senator Jon Ossoff released a statement on behalf of Jackson’s passing, saying:
“I was saddened this morning to learn of Bishop Jackson’s passing. Alisha and I grieve his departure, celebrate his life, and extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Jackson family.” , “I am deeply grateful for the Bishop’s decades of committed service to faith, community, and human rights. It was an honor to work alongside Bishop Jackson for many years and to know him as a friend.”
While church members mourn his loss, they say that they thank God for his life and will honor his memory.
