Description
GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A Tallahassee man is in the hospital after Georgia State Patrol (GSP) ended a chase using a PIT maneuver in Grady County.
At around 4:24 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, a trooper saw a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed while headed southbound on GA 111. GSP said the vehicle was going 90 miles per hour in a 55-mile-per-hour zone.
A stop was attempted, however the vehicle was passing others and accelerating. When the trooper re-checked the vehicle’s speed, it was at 105 miles per hour.
The vehicle kept accelerating, passing multiple vehicles, and driving recklessly which prompted a pursuit.
GSP said the trooper decided to end the pursuit by conducting a PIT maneuver. This caused the vehicle to go off the east shoulder and hit a culvert and a couple of trees before coming to a final rest.
The trooper was assisted by a Cairo Police officer in successfully apprehending the suspect.
The suspect was identified as 47-year-old Milton Bontarius, of Tallahassee.
He received minor injuries and was taken to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville to be treated.
