JOHNSON COUNTY, Ga. (WGXA) — A man in Johnson County was arrested after an investigation revealed he had allegedly left an elderly person alone in poor circumstances for several days at a time over the span of three years.
According to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO), 49-year-old Mikell Kitchens of Kite, Ga., allegedly would leave the 82-year-old victim alone for days at a time between 2022 and 2025 without proper supervision, food and no way to call for help in case of emergencies. JCSO also said the victim's home had no power and was in "disarray," making it difficult to live in.

On Saturday, Johnson County investigators went to Kitchens' home and arrested him. He was taken to the Danny Elbert Detention Center, where he was charged with felony neglect of an elderly person.
Johnson County Sheriff Greg Rowland released a statement on Facebook following the arrest.
“The actions of this individual are unacceptable and despicable. Preying on the elderly, someone who relies on others for care and support, is a heartless and disgraceful betrayal," said Sheriff Greg Rowland. "We are committed to protecting our most vulnerable residents. Let this serve as a clear message: this kind of abuse has no place in our community, and we will do everything possible to bring those responsible to justice.”
JCSO said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's office at (478) 864-4003.
