LEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - One man has been arrested after reportedly lying to deputies about an armed robbery.
On March 20, 2025, around 12:10pm, Lee County Deputies responded to Walmart on Ledo Road regarding an alleged armed robbery. The “victim” has been identified as Tyler Chase Douglas. According to The Lee County Sheriff’s Facebook page, Douglas told police that he was approached at gunpoint, forced to hand over his hard-earned cash, and then watched as the suspect strolled away and that he went back to work before dialing 911.
The sheriff’s office Patrol Division and Criminal Investigation Division began an investigation, looking into surveillance footage and flock safety data only to determined that Douglas was never at Walmart when the alleged robbery took place.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says Douglas then changed his story, indicating it was a result of a scam near Sylvester Road before finally claiming he was robbed in Albany.
Douglas was arrested for false report of a crime and false statements and writings.
The sheriff’s office sends a warning to residents about making false reports. They say creating false reports pulls away resources from actual emergencies, and they ask the public to reconsider before reporting a lie as a crime.
LCSO also is encouraging “anyone involved in criminal activity to stay out of Lee County.”
