CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) - The Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) has announced an arrest of a suspect accused of nearly striking a pedestrian with a vehicle, hitting an unoccupied car, evading multiple law enforcement agencies, and crashing a vehicle.

Kevin Rolando Cardona Lopez was arrested on Feb. 15, according to GCSO.

The Cairo Police Department (CPD) observed Cardona Lopez driving “erratically” on Broad Street, nearly hitting a pedestrian and hitting an unoccupied car. Officers with CPD tried to make a traffic stop when the suspect fled on GA Hwy 111, exiting the city limits of Cairo.

According to GCSO, CPD contacted the agency and provided them with a description of the suspect and his vehicle.

Deputies with GCSO saw the reported vehicle parked at a residence in Reno. When deputies made contact, the suspect fled again on GA Hwy 111.

The suspect allegedly led GCSO on a pursuit.

“A pursuit was authorized, and as the suspect vehicle entered the city limits of Cairo, the driver failed to negotiate a curve, crashing into a wooded area. Grady EMS responded to treat Cardona Lopez for lacerations sustained in the wreck. After being cleared for transport, he was taken into custody and transported to the Grady County Detention Center.”

Cardona Lopez is facing multiple charges from the Cairo Police Department and Georgia State Patrol.
