CAPE SAN BLAS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Georgia man died over the weekend after drowning in the Gulf off the shore of Cape San Blas.
Officials say the man was in the water with his son at the time of the drowning, his son survived the incident.
On Sunday, around 2:00 p.m., Gulf County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call near the 3800 block of Cape San Blas Road about a drowning. Timothy Franklin, 47, of Georgia, drowned after getting caught in a rip current, authorities say.
“The Gulf County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the numerous members of the community that have wrapped themselves around the Franklin family to provide support during this incredibly difficult time. This is a heartbreaking incident and the family remains in our thoughts and prayers,” local authorities said in a press release.
Gulf County EMS and South Gulf Fire Rescue performed life-saving procedures.
