TURNER COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) — A house fire in Turner County Friday, Aug. 14, was likely caused by a lightning strike, according to Turner County Fire Rescue (TCFR).
Fire Chief Bruce Burgess said the call came in at about 3 p.m. Friday. He said reports show that lightning struck in the area at about 2:36 p.m.
No injuries were reported, but at least two people were displaced by the blaze, Burgess said.

Several local agencies responded to the fire, and TCFR took to Facebook to thank them.
“It takes a strong community and dedicated first responders working together to make a difference. We truly appreciate everyone who answered the call and helped keep our community safe.”
Responding agencies include the following, TCF said:
- Turner County Sheriff’s Office
- Ashburn Department of Public Safety
- Turner County Emergency Medical Services
