NASHVILLE, Ga. (WALB) — Berrien County Board of Education (BOE) said students at the primary school will have a digital learning day Monday, Aug. 17, as crews work to clean up from a fire.

The fire, which officials say may have been caused by a lightning strike, was on Friday, Aug. 14, at about 4:30 p.m.

No students or staff were injured, according to the Nashville Fire Department. School district leaders said the damage was minimal.

The BOE instructed primary school students to stay home on Monday and complete digital learning activities that will be provided by their teachers.

All other Berrien County schools will operate normally on Monday, the board said. Students attending the following schools should plan to come to school as usual on Monday:

  • Berrien Elementary School
  • Berrien Middle School
  • Berrien High School
  • Berrien Performance Learning Academy

The board went on to say that district leaders are working with emergency officials about this incident.

“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are continuing to work closely with emergency personnel and appropriate officials to ensure Berrien Primary School is safe for students and staff to return.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this unexpected situation. We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support of Berrien County Schools."
