WASHINGTON (TND) — Vice President Kamala Harris' comments during a live stream with talk show host Oprah Winfrey Thursday evening are gaining traction on social media.
During the event, Harris and Winfrey were joined by a victim of the recentGeorgia high school shooting that killed four people to talk about gun violence and preventing tragedy in America.
Winfrey brought up the statement Harris made during the presidentialdebatewith former President Donald Trump, where she mentioned that she and running mate Tim Walz are gun owners and that she is "not taking anyone's guns."
Harris responded again that she is a gun owner, to which Winfrey said jokingly "I did not know that."
Harris replied with a laugh, "If somebody breaks into my house, they're getting shot." After Winfrey's response, Harris said "Probably should not have said that, but my staff will deal with that later."
The clip, now being shared across social media platform, X, gathered reactions from both sides.
I'm in favor of the second amendment. And I'm in favor of assault weapons bans. Universal background checks, red flag laws. And these are just common sense," Harris also said during the conversation.
The "Unite for America" stream highlighted dozens of grassroots groups backing Harris like "Win with Black Women," White Dudes for Harris," "Out for Harris" and "Latinas for Harris."
During the event, celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Bryan Cranston, Meryl Streep and Chris Rock spoke about why they are voting for the Democratic presidential nominee.
The presidential election is fast approaching, being less than seven weeks away.
