ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Originally set for September, the trial for the father of the suspected Apalachee High School shooter has been pushed back.
During a Tuesday court hearing, Piedmont Judicial Circuit Chief Judge Nicholas Primm granted a motion for continuance, or a formal request to delay a trial or hearing date, for 54-year-old Colin Gray.
A new trial date has not been set.
The decision comes a day after Primm denied the defense’s attempt to quash Colin’s indictment.
Colin’s trial was previously set to begin on Sept. 8. He faces two counts of second-degree murder, 19 counts of second-degree cruelty to children, two counts of involuntary manslaughter and four counts of reckless conduct. He has pleaded not guilty.
In May, Primm ruled that while Colin’s trial will be held in Barrow County, the jury will come from Hall County to avoid local bias.
Meanwhile, Colin’s son, 14-year-old Colt Gray, faces more than 50 charges, including felony and malice murder. He previously pleaded not guilty, but in May, prosecutors and defense attorneys indicated they were working on a plea deal.
Teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie and 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo were shot and killed at the high school on Sept. 4 last year.
Colin is accused of allowing his son to access the AR-style rifle allegedly used in the incident.
