ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Grammy-nominated rapper GloRilla was arrested on drug charges after police responded to a reported burglary at her home in Forsyth County.

According to the Forsyth Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to her house in the St. Marlo Subdivision around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. Investigators said three people were allegedly stealing things and had been shot at by a person living in the home before law enforcement arrived.

The suspects ran away, and no one was injured, the sheriff’s office said.

While responding to the home, deputies reported smelling marijuana and later returned with a search warrant, where they found a “significant amount” of the drug inside the home.

GloRilla, whose real name is Gloria Woods, was not home at the time and turned herself in on July 22, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said.

She was charged with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a schedule I controlled substance and was later released on a $22,260 bond.

In a social media post, the rapper said while she was in Indianapolis performing, law enforcement, “instead of focusing on finding the suspects, they focus on some cannabis.”

“Long story short, my house gets home invaded and I’m the only one that gets arrested,” the rapper said. “So that’s tea.”

Marissa Goldberg, GloRilla’s attorney, said her arrest is a “disturbing window into how warped law enforcement priorities have become.”

“Ms. Woods was out of town when her residence became a target for a group of home invaders who most likely knew she wasn’t there,” Goldberg said. “What they didn’t know was that she had family staying with her that were traumatized by the violent entrance of this group who grabbed high value jewelry before taking off once they realized the home wasn’t vacant. When her family members did the right thing and called law enforcement, instead of investigating the violent home invasion and theft at Ms. Woods’ home, they instead sought a search warrant when they spotted what they believed was a small amount of marijuana.”

Goldberg continued: “Law enforcement then sought arrest warrants for her even though she hadn’t been at her home for some time. No arrest warrants have been issued for the violent home invaders. Ms. Woods is a victim, not a suspect. This is our tax dollars at work, absolutely unbelievable.”

The investigation into the burglary remains active.

“The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,” said Sheriff Ron Freeman. “At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.”
