ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — A sunbather was injured after a Jeep backed into him on a Florida beach.

The Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) said the beachgoer was injured on April 5 after a Jeep was attempting to back up into a parking spot in Ormond Beach. It happened at around 10:43 a.m. near the Cardinal Drive Beach ramp.

Investigators said that a 33-year-old Ocala man was sunbathing when the driver of a Jeep traveled outside of the travel lanes to back into a parking spot and ran him over.

The man sustained injuries to his thigh and arm, he was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries where he was reported to be in stable condition, according to the news release.

The driver of the Jeep — a 61-year-old woman from Ormond Beach — remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. The sheriff's office said the woman showed no signs of impairment, she was cited with careless driving.

VSO said the investigation is still ongoing.
