ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Albany man, Nicholas Nix, is behind bars after firing shots in a neighborhood near South Shadowlawn Drive Thursday night.

Louise Collins has lived in the neighborhood for over thirty years. As time goes on, she says the gun violence has gotten worse.

“My kids told me not sit on the porch out anymore because it’s gotten so regular,” Collins said.

The most recent shooting involved suspects allegedly shooting at a home with five people inside. According to police, 18-year-old Nicholas Nix was seen running down the street, shooting at the suspects in defense. Officers arrested Nix for an active simple battery warrant.

Louise Collins says with so many shootings in the area, she’s considering getting her own protection.

“If we have to get firearms, we have to do what we have to do. We got to live, too,” Collins said.

Albany Police say additional charges are pending, but no injuries reported in connection to this shooting.
