(TNND) — As the ceasefire between Iran and Israel moves into another day, there are reports of the future of Tehran and whether there could be a leadership change.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei remains in power as of now, but according to reports by The Atlantic Magazine, high-ranking leaders from business to politics to the military have begun looking at life without Khamenei.
There are a few ways a change could happen; the Assembly of Experts, which is made up of 88 clerics, would need to vote to dismiss the Supreme Leader. If that wouldn’t happen, he could be sidelined and asked to give temporary power to a replacement.
The sources that spoke to The Atlantic seem to think a leadership committee could negotiate a deal with the United States to stop the war completely.
On Thursday, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei spoke to his country for the first time since the ceasefire, saying they had delivered a "slap to America’s face" with its strike on an American base in Qatar, and warned against any further U.S. Attacks.
His 10-minute speech was filled with warnings and threats directed toward the United States and Israel, while downplaying Sunday’s U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, saying that President Donald Trump had “exaggerated” its impact.
