VALDOSTA, Ga. (WALB) - The University System of Georgia (USG) announced Oct. 14. that Dr. William “Bill” Crowe will serve as the interim president of Valdosta State University (VSU) beginning in the new year.

This comes after current university president Richard Carvajal announced his plans to become the president of California State Polytechnic University.

Currently, Crowe helps manage projects at VSU’s Center for South Georgia Regional Impact, according to the announcement from USG. Crowe has reportedly served as a college police chief, community college president and senior faculty member at the University of Georgia before accepting this interim role at VSU.

“I’m honored to step into this interim position,” Crowe said. “Valdosta State has a proud tradition of serving students and communities in South Georgia, and I’m excited to support Blazer Nation’s mission. What matters most to me is helping students succeed and making sure faculty and staff have the resources they need to do their best work. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of that.”

Crowe has a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Texas, USG said. He is married to Debbie Crowe, who graduated from Berrien County Schools and the University of Georgia, according to USG.

USG said that the details of the search for a permanent president of Valdosta State will be forthcoming.
