MACON, Ga. (WGXA) — A Macon church is welcoming the community to a Breast Cancer Awareness Lunch-and Learn this weekend.

House of Hope Church partners with Atrium Health Navicent to offer on-site breast cancer screenings on its mobile mammogram coach for the event on Saturday, October 18.

Church leaders, Lead Pastor, Doctor J.C. Howard and First Lady April Howard say this is an event that they have been holding for many years to ensure the women in their congregation and the community have access to proper healthcare.

"We are trying to raise awareness to ensure that our sisters in the community are doing their due diligence with mammograms and all of the like in order to prevent breast cancer," said Pastor Howard. "My mother is a breast cancer survivor, so this is absolutely an important issue to me personally and but also to our congregation."

The event will also feature speakers who are survivors of breast cancer to speak on awareness and prevention. Healthcare experts will also be at the event to provide knowledge and resources on overall physical and mental health.

"We have quite a few members who are breast cancer survivors... obviously, as a church we push and promote spiritual health, however, it's connected to the mind and it's connected to the body, and this is why we are serious about ensuring that we deliver health services or do our best to do such so that indivualas are not only spirputally developed but physcially health as well," said Pastor Howard.

The mammogram coach will be on the House of Hope Campus, located at 1909 Woodland Drive in Macon, starting at 10:00 a.m., and lunch will begin at 11:00 a.m.
