AMERICUS, Ga. — Georgia Southwestern State University announced Wednesday, June 17, that Missy Tiber has resigned as head women’s basketball coach after two seasons with the Hurricanes.
Under Tiber, the Lady Hurricanes went 24-32 and reached the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship in 2024.
New role in Ohio
Tiber is departing a coaching career that spanned three decades and multiple levels of collegiate basketball to return to her hometown in Ohio, where she will serve as athletic director for Bellaire Local Schools, according to the university.
GSW says a national search for the program’s next head coach will begin immediately.
Coach’s statement
“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Georgia Southwestern State University for the opportunity to serve as the head coach of the women’s basketball program for the past two years,” Tiber said in the University’s press release.
“I am especially thankful to Mike Leeder and President (Dr. Michelle) Johnston for their leadership, support and belief in me throughout this journey. The GSW campus community and the Americus community welcomed my family with open arms from day one. Your kindness, encouragement, and support made this experience truly special,” she continued.
“While this next chapter brings an exciting opportunity to return home and be closer to family, I will always cherish the relationships, memories and experiences we shared at GSW. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Hurricane family. I wish the university, the athletic department and the women’s basketball program continued success in the years ahead,” said Tiber.
