(Gray News) - Some people should take a close look inside the refrigerator.
Church Brothers Farms has recalled nearly 1,300 cases of its green onions because they may be contaminated with salmonella, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The agency said the distribution of the onions was limited to a small number of retail and food-service customers in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia.
Only these products named in the announcement are being recalled:
- Church Brothers, Green Onions Iceless 4x2lb Reg Church Brothers Mexico, lot code CB272378.
- Imperial Fresh, Green Onion Iceless 4x2lb Reg, lot code CB272378,
- Trader Joe’s branded green onions, Green Onion Iceless 24x6oz
Reg Trader Joe’s Mexico, lot code CB272378, pack date Sept. 25,
The Church Brothers and Imperial Fresh green onions are packaged in a clear bag, with the product code located in front of the bag, while the Trader Joe products are in a brand retail bag with pack date label on back of the bag.
Salmonella infections can be fatal for children and the elderly.
For others the symptoms include fever, nausea and abdominal pain.
So far, there are no reports of illnesses related to the onions.
Those who have the recalled onions should throw them away.
