Description
CAIRO, Ga. (WALB) - The Grady County Sheriff’s Office completed Operation Safe Shoulder on Saturday, Feb. 21, a traffic enforcement detail targeting drivers who fail to slow down and move over for emergency vehicles and tow trucks with activated emergency or warning lights.

Operation results
The operation resulted in the following:
- 96 traffic stops
- 43 citations issued
- 46 warnings issued
- 5 physical arrests
Marked and unmarked patrol vehicles were used during the operation, according to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s statement
Each year, dozens of law enforcement officers, first responders, and tow truck operators are killed or seriously injured nationwide, according to the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Martin Earl Prince issued a statement on the operation.
“Let me be clear, when you ignore the Move Over law, you’re not just breaking the law — you’re putting lives in danger,” Prince said. “The men and women working on our roads — deputies, paramedics, firefighters, and wrecker operators deserve to go home at the end of their shift. One careless driver can change that forever. We will not tolerate it in Grady County.”
