Description
GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Grady County Sheriff’s Deputies assisted the Georgia State Patrol in a high-speed pursuit on the evening of Friday, April 11, after a suspect attempted to flee from a routine checkpoint on GA Highway 111 South.
The chase began when a white Dodge Charger made an illegal U-turn to evade the checkpoint. Troopers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, leading to a pursuit northbound on GA 111.
According to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office, the chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle suffered a tire blowout at the intersection of Sofkee Road and Faircloth Road. While the driver, Marcus Lloyd Gaines, fled on foot, passenger Monika Monique Freeman was taken into custody. A search of the vehicle revealed ecstasy, leading to Freeman’s charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Gaines, who is wanted on felony charges including fleeing and eluding and possession of a controlled substance, remains at large. Authorities are urging anyone with information on his whereabouts to contact 911 or local law enforcement. A reward is being offered for his capture.
Sheriff Martin Earl Prince stressed the dangers of fleeing from law enforcement and the illegal drug activity, stating, “These actions put lives at risk, and the consequences are severe.”
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be shared as they become available.
