TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - To honor the lives lost in a shooting on Florida State University’s campus Thursday and the first responders who arrived at the scene, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis ordered flags to half-staff Friday across the state.
The governor ordered all flags to be flown at half-staff at all state and local buildings, installations and grounds until sunset on Monday, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
Two men died and six others, including the shooter, identified as FSU student Phoenix Ikner, were hospitalized after Ikner fired shots on the university campus Thursday afternoon.
The 20-year-old was also identified as the stepson of a Leon County Sheriff’s Office school resource deputy, an LCSO spokesperson confirmed to WCTV Friday.
Authorities responded to the scene just two minutes after receiving reports of an active shooter on campus.
Robert Morales, a former Leon High assistant football coach, was one of the two who died in the shooting, CBS Miami and the high school’s athletics department confirmed Friday.
