ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Girl Scouts across Georgia are celebrating National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend, with cookie booths set up statewide giving the community a chance to support local girls.
Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is inviting cookie lovers to take part in the annual celebration, which highlights the impact of the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Organizers said the weekend is about more than selling cookies — it is about teaching girls leadership and giving them confidence through hands-on experience.

Kelli Gunn, a member of Girl Scout Troop 40511 in Albany, said the organization has made a lasting impact.
“Girl Scouts gives girls the opportunity to make friendships, to experience things they may not experience outside of Girl Scouting. To earn badges, to take trips with their friends. It kind of — I say all the time we were looking for a place to call home, a group of people to be our community. And Girl Scouts did that for us,” Gunn said.
Leaders said National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend serves as a reminder that each box sold helps open doors for girls across Georgia.
