CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — A Georgia police officer is recovering in intensive care in Chattanooga after he was shot in the face while responding to a call about a suspicious person.
Captain Brantley Worley was shot in the head and neck late Friday night in McCaysville, Georgia, in Fannin County.
Police say the man responsible is now in custody, after a manhunt that lasted almost 24 hours.
Captain Worley suffered major injuries to his brain and neck, according to McCaysville Police Chief Michael Earley.
In a Facebook post, Chief Earley says several of Captain Worley's colleagues drove up to Chattanooga to visit him, and that he was able to speak with his brothers and sisters in blue, and is showing signs of recovery.
The doctors have confirmed that no brain surgery will be needed,' Chief Worley said in the Facebook post. 'There is hope he may soon be moved out of ICU.
The chief added, "He has small children and a family. So please remember him and his family."
The suspected shooter, 26-year-old Timothy Craig Ramsey, fled the scene, prompting a manhunt that ended Saturday evening.
Authorities have not provided further details about the arrest.
