CORDELE, Ga. (WALB) – The Cordele Police Department announced a major change in leadership.
Chief Jalon Heard submitted his resignation on Aug. 25, with his final day of service on Sept. 12. The department confirmed the news on Facebook, adding that Heard will be joining the Georgia Prosecuting Attorneys Council.
Heard previously served as interim chief in 2022 before officially taking over the role in May of that year. WALB reported at the time that he was sworn in following the resignation of former Chief Mike Hathaway in February 2022.
Hathaway resigned citing concerns that the county’s commission chairman had lowered police morale.
WALB has reached out to Cordele Police to learn who will be replacing Chief Heard.
We will provide updates both on-air and online as soon as details become available.
