GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - One man is behind bars after reportedly fleeing from Grady County deputies in an early morning pursuit.

According to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), deputies were patrolling the Pine Level community early Tuesday morning when they encountered a suspicious vehicle near Bond Lane off of Pine Level Road.

The driver of the vehicle, Theodore Jackson, initially pulled over for deputies when he was stopped. GCSO deputies report smelling a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and they say they discovered that Jackson was driving on a suspended license.

Deputies asked Jackson to step out of the car, but instead, he fled the scene leading deputies to chase him eastbound on Pine Level Road, GCSO says.

The chase ended when the Jackson lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch.

Jackson was then taken into custody. He is facing charges for:

• Felony fleeing and eluding
• Driving with a suspended license
• Driving under the influence of drugs
• And several other violations

When talking about this pursuit and arrest, Sheriff Prince said, “Our top priority is always the safety of our community.”

Jackson is currently being held at the Grady County Detention Center.
