DUBLIN, Ga. (WGXA) — It’s time to spotlight our Game Changer of the Week! This week, WGXA’s Carlos Stephens sat down with West Laurens safety Jayce Blash, a player whose passion for football comes from something bigger than the game — his love for his little brother.
Blash, a key defensive leader for the Raiders, says his journey started not just with his friends but by watching his younger brother fall in love with football.
“I would just say my friends and my little brother watching him play,” Blash said. “He means a lot to me. Just seeing him run around, being happy, and watching him play because he comes on Friday nights to watch me.”
The senior safety’s dedication shows on the field — with seven career interceptions, including five from his junior year and two so far this season. His goal? To make history.
“I want it to be 11 because the career record is 10,” Blash said with a smile.
West Laurens has had an impressive start this season, and Blash says the secret to their success is simple: consistency and hard work.
“Stacking good weeks on top of good weeks, practicing hard every day, staying focused, lifting weights,” he explained.
Off the field, Blash gives back by coaching a 6U flag football team, helping young athletes — including his brother — learn the game he loves.
“I just feel like giving back to the community and getting to see my little brother play football,” he said.
When asked who his biggest supporter is, Blash didn’t hesitate. “I think my mom might be my biggest supporter,” he said. “She loves watching clips of me. Sometimes we sit and watch them together.”
