Description

COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - What began as ashes in 2022 has become a renewed source of light for a Coffee County congregation and the community it serves.

After a devastating fire destroyed their church building three years ago, members say their mission never burned with it. Even without a permanent home, the congregation continued to serve neighbors, finding new ways to stay connected and keep their faith alive.

Now rebuilt, church leaders say the new space allows them to do even more. With expanded facilities designed to meet growing needs, the church says its outreach has reached new heights, especially during this Christmas season.

That renewed mission was on full display through a festive outdoor light display and a live nativity, inviting families from across the community to gather and reflect on what organizers call “the real reason for the season.” The live nativity featured two showings and drew attendees of all ages.

Church leaders say the event is about more than celebration it’s a reflection of resilience, faith, and a continued commitment to giving back, regardless of circumstances.

Pastors plan to share more about the rebuilding journey and how the new church expands outreach efforts, while congregation members say this season’s events hold deeper meaning after experiencing loss. Community attendees also shared positive reactions to the nativity and lights, calling it a powerful reminder of hope.

WALB’s Taylor Lewis will have more.
