CALICO ROCK, Ark. (WKRC) — Authorities are on the hunt for an escaped inmate who once served as a police chief.
Grant Hardin, who has been serving a 30-year sentence for first-degree murder since 2017, managed to escape from the North Central Unit prison in Calico Rock, according to Arkansas Department of Corrections and Stone County Sheriff's Office.
Hardin was also serving an additional sentence for a rape charge.
According to the Arkansas Department of Corrections, Hardin was wearing a makeshift outfit designed to mimic law enforcement attire at the time of his escape.
Officials were investigating the circumstances that led to his escape. Hardin previously held the position of police chief in Gateway, a town located in Benton County.
In October 2017, Hardin pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 59-year-old James Appleton, Associated Press reported. He was also serving 50 years in prison for the 1997 rape of an elementary school teacher.
