ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) — The former mayor of Atlanta and gubernatorial candidate Keisha Lance Bottoms campaigned in Albany for her “Our Rights, Our Future” GOTV Tour on the last day of early voting, Friday, May 15.
Bottoms is one of seven democratic gubernatorial candidates running in the primary election, May 19. Her opponents are Amanda Duffy, Derrick Jackson, Geoff Duncan, Jason Esteves, Mike Thurmond and Olu Brown.
The former mayor heard from residents at multiple meet-and-greet stops downtown before they punched their ballot at nearby precincts. She discussed her policies of affordable housing, healthcare access and protecting voting rights.
Bottoms said focusing on housing infrastructure is a priority for South Georgia residents. Bottoms narrowed in at lowering utility costs for Albany. She said the Public Service Commission election will help her do that.
“We want to make sure that people vote down the ballot,” she said. “Infrastructure, helping builders be able to build houses and preserving those houses that may not be as energy efficient. We were able to do it in the city of Atlanta with grants and small interest loans. That’s something I want to see scale statewide.”
The “Our Rights, Our Future” GOVT Tour will stop in two more South Ga. Cities, Friday, May 15:
