ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Senator Jon Ossoff says plans are in place for an $86-million construction project at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.
At a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee hearing this week, Senator Ossoff said the design plans for a state-of-the-art communications facility have been completed. He’s still pushing to secure the full funding for the project.
Senator Ossoff told the committee the facility is one of the highest priorities for the Albany community.
Lieutenant General Stephen Sklenka spoke in support of the facility.
“What we’re seeing is an evolution with what Marine Corps Logistics Base, and in particular, the logistics command, is doing. They’re not just an operation that is run out of Southwest Georgia; they have a reach that extends into the Indo-Pacific, significant actions with the work that we’re doing with our Global Position Network. That just highlights in my view the criticality of that communications facility that we’re developing.”
The funding is the key aspect of Ossoff’s MCLB Albany Innovation Act, which still requires layers of approval before a commitment will be made.
