GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A Florida man was arrested on drug charges following a cross-county high-speed pursuit on Memorial Day.

According to the Grady County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), deputies saw a Dodge Challenger, driven by Tallahassee resident Dewayne Denali Nelson, going 91 to 120 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 319.

When deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop, Nelson did not pull over, which led to a pursuit that crossed into Thomas County.

With the assistance of Thomas County Deputies, the vehicle was stopped.

Deputies were then able to search the vehicle, which led to the discovery of a substantial amount of marijuana, according to the GCSO.

Nelson was arrested and charged with the following:

• Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
• Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Law Enforcement
• Reckless Driving
• Speeding

“This is a clear example of our zero-tolerance stance on criminal activity in our communities,” said Grady County Sheriff Earl Prince. “I commend our deputies for their swift response and thank Sheriff Tim Watkins and the Thomas County Sheriff’s Office for their critical assistance in bringing this dangerous situation to a safe conclusion.”

GCSO said the investigation is ongoing and more details may be released as they become available.
