ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Authorities urged drivers to be careful on the road as travelers returned from Memorial Day weekend.
Officers across Georgia say they are seeing a rise in traffic crashes and driving violations.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) said Tuesday in total, there were 14 traffic fatality incidents during the 2025 Memorial Day holiday travel period.
The Georgia Department of Public Safety said law enforcement responded to over 800 distracted driving incidents, 281 crash reports, and stopped 335 drivers allegedly under the influence. The department said there have been over 100 injuries.
Last year, troopers investigated more than 500 crashes in the state, which led to 11 traffic fatalities over the designated holiday period.
“These dangerous behaviors are putting lives at risk as the holiday travel period continues,” DPS said.
The Memorial Day holiday travel period, which began on Friday, May 23, ended on Monday at 11:59 p.m.
