ORLANDO, Fla. (TNND) — The arrest of a suspected member of the notorious Tren de Aragua gang is being hailed as the first under the "Alien Enemies Act" in Florida, following President Donald Trump's invocation of the law on March 15.

Franklin Jose Jimenez-Bracho was identified as a suspect in an "ongoing operation." Jimenez-Brach was arrested in Florida in a joint operation. He was a wanted human trafficker and smuggler, according to Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials.

Special Agents with the FDLE were credited with placing Jimenez-Bracho in the hands of the Florida Highway Patrol and Homeland Security Investigation officers.

The group posted a photo of the takedown, which showed the alleged smuggler in handcuffs surrounded by law enforcement officers. FDLE officials called the collaborative effort, which also included the FBI and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, a "historic operation."

At a joint news conference on Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis and Trump were both praised for their support in tackling foreign criminal organizations.

"Thank you, Governor Ron DeSantis for ensuring Florida’s law enforcement has the power to take down foreign terrorist organizations like Tren de Aragua," stated FDLE in a social media post.

Todd M. Lyons, Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, addressed the severity of the threat posed by TDA members in the country.

“TDA has a notorious presence on U.S. soil, with members linked to a range of heinous crimes,” Lyons said. “These are cold-blooded criminals involved in murder, rape, drug and weapons trafficking, and human smuggling. We cannot and will not tolerate their brutality."

Lyons also confirmed that 68 suspected TDA members have been arrested in the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of arrests to 394 since ICE began targeting the group. He emphasized that the agency’s goal remains clear: "Eradicate Tren de Aragua from U.S. soil."
