Description
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia homeowners and renters who suffered losses from Tropical Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene now have more time to apply for federal assistance.
FEMA has extended the deadline to apply for aid until Feb. 7, 2025. This aid is for people in the 63 Georgia counties affected by the storms in August and September.
FEMA may be able to provide Individual Assistance grant money for people to help with rental assistance, personal property loss, lodging reimbursement for temporary stays, basic home repairs or other serious needs caused by the storms.
Only one application is allowed per household and FEMA is not allowed to duplicate insurance payments or assistance provided by other sources.
Before applying, make sure you have the following:
- Phone number where you can be contacted
- Address at the time of the disaster
- Address where you are staying now
- Social Security Number of one member of the household
- Basic list of damage and losses
- Bank information if you choose direct deposit for FEMA money
- Insurance Information: if you have insurance, including the policy number
Anyone applying for FEMA assistance can do so at DisasterAssistance.gov, through FEMA App or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
