ALVARADO, Texas (TNND) — The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads them to the 12th suspect wanted in connection with an attack on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Texas.
Benjamin Hanil Song is wanted for attempted murder of a federal officer, and discharging a firearm during, in relation to, and in furtherance in a crime of violence. Officials said he should be considered armed and dangerous.
He is accused of joining 10 others in an organized attack on the Prairieland Detention Center near Alvarado on July 4.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) said the defendants allegedly dressed in black “military-style clothing” and shot fireworks at the facility. One individual, according to a DOJ complaint, graffitied vehicles and a guard post in the facility’s parking lot with phrases like “traitor” and “ICE pig.”
Officers responding to the scene reported being shot at by one of the assailants who was hiding in a nearby woods, leading one to be struck in the neck. Another attacker allegedly fired about 30 rounds at other unarmed officers exiting the facility. Both used “AR-style weapons,” according to the DOJ.
The attackers then fled the scene, but were apprehended by other law enforcement in the area. The defendants allegedly had flyers reading “FIGHT ICE TERROR WITH CLASS WAR!” and “FREE ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS,” and a flag reading “RESIST FACISM – FIGHT OLIGARCHY.”
The suspects named in the complaint include Cameron Arnold, Savannah Batten, Nathan Baumann, Zachary Evetts, Joy Gibson, Bradford Morris, Maricela Rueda, Seth Sikes, Elizabeth Soto and Ines Soto.
Song allegedly purchased four of the guns in connection with the shooting, including two AR-style rifles, according to officials.
"One of the abandoned rifles at the scene had a binary trigger, used to 'double' a regular rate of fire, allowing a shooter to fire more rapidly than a standard semiautomatic gun," a statement from the DOJ read.
Song's cellphone location data indicated his phone was within several hundred meters of the detention center on July 4, up until after dark on July 5, officials reported.
The DOJ said Song was charged by federal complaint with three counts of attempted murder of federal agents and three counts of discharging a firearm in relation to a crime of violence.
The 11th suspect, Daniel Rolando-Sanchez Estrada, is the husband of one of the attackers and was taken into custody by the FBI on charges of conspiracy to tamper with evidence while attempting to execute a search warrant, according to ICE.
He allegedly had "insurrectionist propaganda" titled "Organizing for Attack! Insurrectionary Anarchy."
