ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ/Gray News) - A family in Virginia says they were bitten and injured by bedbugs during a transatlantic flight operated by Delta Air Lines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, according to a lawsuit.
In the lawsuit, the Albuquerque family began their travels from Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.
Two hours into their second flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam on March 21, one of the family members “began feeling like bugs were crawling on her and that she was being bitten; it was at this point that she realized that bugs were crawling on her light-colored sweater”, according to court documents.

The bites caused welts and rashes all over the bodies of the parents and children, court documents say.

Due to the bites, the family said in the suit that they were unable to enjoy their vacation.
The family is suing the airlines as they “suffered personal injuries, rashes, discomfort, itching, pain and suffering, inconvenience, anxiety, mental anguish, anger, fear, humiliation, and embarrassment”, the lawsuit said.
The family is seeking $200,000.
The family also “incurred medical expenses to treat their injuries, and due to medical concerns, the family had to dispose of their infested clothing and personal items”, according to the lawsuit.
