WASHINGTON (TNND) — A federal judge has mandated that Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) submit their downsizing plans and records, detailing who is employed at DOGE and their strategies for reducing federal government spending and programs. This order comes as 14 Democratic state attorneys general have filed a lawsuit against President Trump, Musk, and DOGE, claiming that DOGE's actions are unconstitutional.
According to DOGE's website, the department has reported significant savings through various cuts. DOGE posted the receipts of $17.9 billion from contract cuts, over $16.6 billion from grant cuts, and $489.2 million from real estate cuts. This data indicates that the department has issued 13,640 receipts totaling around $35 billion. However, these figures represent only 30% of the total savings, with DOGE claiming to have saved approximately $115 billion overall.
The General Services Administration has experienced the most significant cuts from DOGE, followed by the Department of Education, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Labor, and Office of Personnel Management.
The savings reportedly amount to $714.29 per average taxpayer. Though they constitute only about 0.3% of the national debt, which currently stands at approximately $36.2 trillion, according to the U.S. Treasury.
Elon Musk has stated his intention to cut around $1 trillion in waste, with the potential for further developments by the end of President Trump's term.
