Lake City, Ark. (KATV) — A confirmed EF-3 tornado wreaked havoc in Lake City, Craighead County, causing significant damage as it tore through northeast Arkansas.
It was one of more than half a dozen confirmed in the state last night, prompting residents to seek refuge in storm shelters. Lake City was among the hardest-hit areas, with multiple homes destroyed, cars overturned, and heavy farming equipment hurled several yards by the powerful winds.
The storm also downed power lines and resulted in several injuries.
Across Arkansas, at least 25 counties reported damage, and approximately 30,000 homes lost power. Streets were littered with debris, and both homes and businesses were left in ruins.
Morgan Earnest, a resident who narrowly survived the storm, described the harrowing experience: "I started feeling the debris down and once I felt the debris coming into the storm seller and my kids were screaming."
My mom was screaming. I was freaking out. I knew right then. I grabbed them and I was like oh my gosh. Is it going to be as bad as what you’re thinking? It felt like five minutes, but it’s something I would never relive again," said Earnest.
The tornado was part of a larger severe weather system that has already sparked widespread concern. This event marks the beginning of what is expected to be a four-day stretch of severe weather.
