COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - A person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a single-vehicle drunk driving crash on Friday, Aug. 22.
The crash happened near Mt. Olive Church Road on State Route 37 in Colquitt County. Troopers were called out to the crash at around 6:30 p.m., according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).
An investigation found that a driver was headed east on SR 37 when they crossed over into the westbound lane. It then spun clockwise and hit a metal Railroad Crossing pole. The vehicle then came to an uncontrolled rest facing south.
511 Georgia posted to Facebook on Friday that all lanes of the highway were blocked in that area. The post said the scene was cleared at around 10 p.m. the same day.
GSP said the driver admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages before the crash and showed physical impairment.
The driver was charged with:
- DUI
- Due Care
- Failure to Maintain Lane
Additionally, the driver was taken to Phoebe Memorial with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
