ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) - Dozens of Dougherty County residents resolved outstanding legal issues through the Municipal Court’s Warrant Forgiveness Program.

May 22 was the first of three scheduled warrant forgiveness days. The next court days for the warrant forgiveness program will be on August 28 and October 23 of 2026.

County Officials said the events are an opportunity for residents to move forward with a clean slate. Residents resolved outstanding warrants, explained their cases, and got extensions on citation deadlines.

Presiding Judge, Ingrid Driskell threw out or lowered the cost of some citations after defendants showed they were willing to change. One defendant’s citation for illegal dumping was reduced from two $750 tickets to one $250 ticket, after he cleaned up the alleged dump sites.

Those unable to pay fines were given extensions or allowed to trade the payment for community service with up to a 12-month probationary period.

The Warrant Forgiveness program only applies to those who fail to appear in Municipal Court for a:

  • A Misdemeanor Traffic Citation
  • A code enforcement violation
  • Those on a JAC probation through the Albany Municipal court with an open probation warrant
