DOUGLAS, Ga. (WALB) - As cold weather moves into the area, a warming shelter will be available in Douglas for those in need.

City officials say the warming shelter will be open at the Douglas Police Department, located at 225 W. Bryan Street, beginning Dec. 29 through Dec. 31, 2025. The shelter is intended to provide a safe, warm place for individuals seeking relief from the dangerously cold temperatures expected in the coming days.

Residents are also being reminded to take precautions during the cold snap by protecting the four P’s: People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants. Officials urge everyone to check on vulnerable neighbors, bring pets indoors, insulate or drip pipes, and cover or move plants to prevent cold damage.

Stay with local officials and WALB News 10 for updates as the cold weather approaches.
