Description
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Iran has the capability to target U.S. assets stationed in the Middle East, according to a Congressional Research Service report filed this week.
The report estimates that Iranian missiles have a range that extends throughout the Middle East and reaches as far as Eastern Europe. However, the report does not account for Iranian missiles developed since 2019.
Iranian missiles have occasionally breached Israel's anti-air defenses, though many have been intercepted and destroyed by Israeli and U.S. forces before reaching their intended targets.
The United States maintains several military assets and embassies across the Middle East, which Iran now considers legitimate targets for a counter-strike.
"Task and Purpose" reports that the U.S. has two aircraft carriers, nine destroyers, and dozens of Air Force tankers deployed in the region. Additionally, there are ten known U.S. military bases within range of Iranian missiles, including those with troops stationed in Iraq and Syria.
President Trump has stated that the U.S. and Israel maintain air superiority over Iran.
Early Sunday, the United States military launched airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
