WASHINGTON (TNND) — Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is calling for President Donald Trump's impeachment after the United States completed airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran early Sunday.
The congresswoman took to social media following news of the strikes to call the military action "disastrous," describing it as a "grave violation of the Constitution."
The President’s disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers. He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations. It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment," she wrote.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., learned of the strikes while giving a speech on his "Fighting Oligarchy" tour in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where crowds chanted "No more wars!"
The only entity that can take this country to war is the U.S. Congress! The president does not have the right!" Sanders said.
Sanders called Trump's order "grossly unconstitutional" and said the president made "another burden we have to carry."
President Trump described the strikes as a “spectacular military success” in remarks to the nation from the White House Cross Hall.
