Description

WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Trump’s border czar Tom Homan figures the plan for mass deportations of illegal migrants will cost around $86 billion to execute.

However, it will ultimately end up saving American taxpayers even more.

We're spending multiple billion dollars every year on free hotel rooms, free plane rides and health care. our school systems, our hospitals, our trauma centers or social services. This operation is going to be expensive, but at the end of it, we're going to save the taxpayers billions of dollars," Homan said during an interview Monday evening.

Homan has said the success of Trump’s deportation plan will depend on what resources Congress gives them.

In 2023, U.S. taxpayers spent more than $150 billion on caring for undocumented immigrants. That estimate is calculated by the new Department of Government Efficiency known as DOGE.

The financial burden weighs heavily on sanctuary cities and states that have spent millions, and in some cases, billions, on undocumented immigrants bused there from Texas courtesy of Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbot is determined to send the message: "This is not just a border state problem."

Chicago has spent $574.5 million on migrants since 2022. Many Chicago residents are not happy with the spending.

"I got a great way, of what we can do with this budget. First let’s start with illegals getting free everything, free housing, free schooling, free food," said one frustrated resident during a city council meeting in December 2024.

Denver has spent $356 million on migrants since 2022.

The state of Massachusetts has spent over a billion dollars just on migrant shelters since September 2023.

In fiscal year 2023, New York City spent $1.47 billion on asylum seekers.

Undocumented migrants typically don’t qualify for work permits. Critics argue expanding access to legal work for migrants could lessen the financial cost for the government.
