IRWIN COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - Irwin County Middle/High School is on soft lockdown.
On Wednesday afternoon, the school sent out a message to parents that there was no immediate threat.
“This is for precautionary purposes, and instruction is continuing as normal,” the message said.
That same afternoon, the Irwin County Sheriff’s Office posted to Facebook that a threat made over social media to shoot up Irwin County High School prompted the lockdown.
The sheriff’s office said the school has been cleared, and the threat is being investigated by the Ocilla Police detectives, Irwin County Sheriff investigators, and Tift Judicial Circuit district attorney’s investigator.
