DECATUR COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office has received a $15,000 technology grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), according to a news release.

Officials say the funding, provided through September 2029, will help deputies upgrade patrol vehicles with standardized mobile computing and printing equipment used to complete electronic accident reports.

The grant is part of GOHS efforts to improve highway safety and reduce traffic fatalities across Georgia.

“The loss of one life on our roads is one too many,” GOHS Director Allen Poole said in the release. “The target of zero traffic deaths in our nation is achievable.”

Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin said the funding will allow deputies to use updated technology in the field, improving the efficiency and accuracy of accident reporting while enhancing roadway safety throughout the community.

The sheriff’s office says it remains committed to public safety through proactive policing, traffic enforcement and community engagement.
